Last date for intermediate admission extended


Hyderabad, Aug 14 : The Board of Intermediate on Tuesday extended the last date of admission in the first year Intermedaite courses for the academic year 2012-13 for the newly sanctioned colleges.

In a media release, Board's Secretary Rama Sankar Naik informed all all the Principals of the newly sanctioned Junior Colleges in the State that the last date of admission would be August 18. Therefore, the Principals have been asked to take immediate necessary steps accordingly.

Independance Day is day of dedication: Governor


Hyderabad, Aug 14 : Governor ESL Narasimhan on Tuesday conveyed heartfelt greetings to the people of Andhra Pradesh on the occasion of Independence Day.

"Independence Day is a day of remembrance as well as dedication. Our freedom struggle is the culmination of the sacrifice of generations of selfless patriots; young and old, men and women cutting across the barriers of caste, religion and region from all over the country," he said.

"Today is a time to bow in remembrance of all those whose vision made it possible for us to enjoy the fruits of freedom," the Governor said.

Narasimhan said, "Our constitution ensures every citizen equal opportunity to fulfill their destiny without discrimination. It enjoins upon us the obligations of citizenship to be fulfilled as well as to defend the unity and integrity of the country and to find accord on all issues through tolerance and mutual respect within our democratic framework which has stood the test of time."

The Govenor said that Andhra Pradesh has been at the forefront of Nation building and particularly our farmers have been the backbone of the Nation. "We have a legacy of a great tradition as well as culture. The State is poised for a further leap forward and let all our efforts be to usher a just and equitous society reflecting the aspirations of the citizens. In the end, the benefits of development should reach every village, habitat and every citizen to fill his heart with hope as well as joy," he said.

BAT plans to train 3.2 lakh students this year


Hyderabad Aug 14 : The Central Government will spend Rs 1500 crore for imparting apprenticeship training to 3.23 lakh youth through Board of Apprenticeship Training (BAT) under 11th Five-Year Plan to increase their job prospects.

Talking to media persons here on Tuesday, BAT Director (South Region) A Ayyakkannu said that the Souther Region has created a history by imparting training to 73,000 out of 1, 62,000 students registered across the country last year. Of them 28 per cent were women, seven per cent minorities, 10  per cent SCs, 1.25 per cent STs and 0.5 per cent Physically Handicapped in 2011-12. Almost 60 per cent of the trained students have already got placements in the private sector in the in Information Technology, manufacturing and and other industries.

He informed that the Board has selected Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vishakhapatnam and Tirupati as special centers as these areas have better job prospects. He informed that board was entrusted a job to impart training to one lakhs students by selecting 10 thousand Industries in the year 2012-13. The Board will provide Rs 3,560 stipend to Degree and Engineering students, Rs 2,530 for Graduate and Diploma Holders, Rs 2,070 to Poly-technic Students and Rs 1,970 for 10+2 vocational Certificate holders during the training.

The Board will also issue certificate to the students after completion of their training. To avail the training opportunity students will have to apply it right after completion of their education or within three years period, Ayyakkannu said.

To create awareness in students about the training program, The Board of Apprenticeship Training has organized a seminar on August 22 at High Tech City Hotel at AVASA in the city. About 125 multi-national companies would take part in the seminar which would be inaugurated by Technical Education Commissioner Ajay Jain. Director and CEO Man Vision Consulting K R Sudhakar and Joint Director PIB Shruti Patil also spoke.

BJP threatens hunger strike over fee reimbursement


Tirupati, Aug 14 : Bharatiya Janata Party  state president G Kishan Reddy has threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike if the State Government fails to solve the fee reimbursement issue and organise counseling for the engineering at the earliest.

Talking to media persons in Tirupati Press Club on Tuesday, Kishan Reddy alleged that the government was turning a blind's eye towards the problems of students in the State. Developmental activities in the State, he claimed, came to a stand still as the government was unable to focus on its regular business. He said that the State Government looked completely focussed on promoting the Congress party.

The BJP leader also slammed the State Government for extending legal aid to the tainted ministers. He said how could the government extend legal support to the ministers facing corruption charges and embezzllement of public money. He said that the BJP would have always opposed such move and tainted or corrupt ministers should not be supported.

Over 120 fall sick after consuming adulterad toddy


Medak/Hyderabad, Aug 14 : Over 120 people fell sick after they consumed adulterated toddy in Kalikal village of Toopran mandal of Medak district.

The villagers fell ill after they consumed the adulterated toddy on Monday night. However, the situation turned worse on Tuesday with the reporting of more cases of adulteration. The District Medial and Health Department had set up a health camp in the village to treat the cases. However, 45 people have been admitted in a private hospital in Medchal while a few more have been admitted in a private hopsital near Kompally. The condition of 15 people is said to be critical.

The District Police has reportedly taken six people into custody for questionining into the case. The left over toddy and other material have also been seized.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy directed the Medak District Collector and Excise officials to rush to Kalkal village to provide the required best medical treatment. He also directed the officials to enquire into the incident and submit a report immediately.

As per the directions of the Chief Minister, the Principal Secretary, Health rushed special teams with doctors, necessary staff and medicines to Kalikal village to take up relief and emergency treatment to the victims of adulterated toddy. The District Collector has also rushed to the village. -

Kiran greets people on Independence Day


Hyderabad, Aug 14 : Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy greeted the people of Andhra Pradesh on the 66th Independence Day.

In an Independence Day message to the people of the State, the Chief Minister said, "Today is certainly the happiest day in the life of every Indian. A day of happiness and pride for all of us. We are proud to be the people of an independent India. We are proud of our country. We are proud of our democracy. We are proud of our cherished values and ideals. But we should also remember that it has taken the sacrifices of lakhs of Indians to bring us the freedom and for us to become a sovereign democratic Republic. Our well being and progress have been built upon the foundation of the hard work and sacrifices of our freedom fighters, the brave jawans of our armed forces, our farmers, our workers and our scientists and technocrats".

The Chief Minister said on the Independence day we remember all those martyrs who laid down their lives for the freedom and security of our country. "The best way of paying homage to those brave sons of our country will be to resolve that we will always stay committed to strengthening the unity and integrity of our nation. Let us all together take a vow that we will spare no effort to take India to greater heights".

The Chief Minister said the State Government have initiated many welfare and development measures and the Government is dedicated and committed to see that the fruits of the welfare measures reaches the real beneficiary. He said the Rachabanda and Indiramma Bata programmes have been launched towards achieving this goal. The Chief Minister said the Rajiv Yuva Kiranaalu programme was launched to help the youth of the State to find employment and other welfare programmes to help farmers and women like interest free loans etc.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy recalled the words of former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who said on the midnight of 14th/15th August, 1947 "Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India awakes to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment, we take the pledge of dedication to the service of India and her people and to the still larger cause of humanity".

The Chief Minister said the youth should draw inspiration from the great leaders of our freedom movement and dedicate themselves in the noble task of nation building. “Let us pledge to uphold the integrity and sovereignty of our nation and unite to steer India to greater heights,” the Chief Minister added.  The Chief Minister said while paying tributes to the freedom fighters, who dared the British government’s bullets and gallows, we should ensure that the people of the country continue to enjoy the benefits of the Independence. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy conveyed his Independence day greetings to all the people in the State.

CM experesses grief over Vials Rao's demise


Hyderabad, Aug 14 : Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy expressed his shock and grief over the demise of Union Minister Mr.Vilas Rao Deshmukh.

In a special message to Ritesh Deshmukh, son of Mr. Vilas Rao Deshmukh, the Chief Minister said that the death of Vilas Rao Deshmuk was a great loss to the Maharashtra, the Congress party in general and the Union government. He that said in the death of Mr Deshmukh, he lost a "a very good friend".

Kiran Kumar Reddy said that Vilas Rao Deshmukh was a senior Congress leader who came up from the grass-root level and championed the cause of the poor and downtrodden. He said Mr Deshmukh served as Chief Minister of Maharashtra and launched many measures for the overall development of Maharashtra. Mr Deshmukh had vast experience as Union Minister and handled various important portfolios like Heavy industries, public enterprises, Rural Development, Panchayatiraj and at the time of death he was Union Minister for Science and Technology, he said.

The Chief Minister said Vilasrao Dagadojirao Deshmukh popularly known as Vilasrao was a senior veteran politician, senior Congress leader and an able administrator. Vilasrao Deshmukh was A Maratha strongman from Latur. He also recalled the services of Mr Deshmukh as a member of Rajya Sabha.

The Chief Minister conveyed condolences and extended his sympathies to the bereaved family members.

CM discusses Dharmana's issue with other ministers


Hyderabad, Aug 14 : Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday held a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narsimha and other ministers to discuss the issue of Roads and Buildings Minister B Dharmanna Prasad Rao, who has been named by the CBI as an accused in Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy's assets case.

The meeting, which went on for over one hour in the State Secretariat, was also attended by Finance Minister Anam Ram Narayan Reddy, Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy and Primary Education Minister Shailajanath. According to sources, the Chief Minister discussed the future implications of Dharmana's inclusion in the CBI chargesheet. The ministers also discussed possible means to counter the criticism by the opposition parties. (INN)

CPI demands reshuffle of State Cabinet


Tirupati, Aug 14 : The Communist Party of India secretary K Narayana on Tuesday demanded compelte reshuffule of the State Cabinet following naming of ministers in corrution cases being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Talking to reporters here, CPI State Secretary K Narayana said that the present cabinet of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had lost its image among the people many ministers were spending time with the CBI or in the court. Therefore, he demanded that the entire cabinet be reshuffled by replacing all the tainted ministers.

Referring to naming of Roads and Buildings Minister B Dharmana Prasad Rao as an accused in YSR Congress party president Jaganmohan Reddy's disproporationate assets case, Narayana said that Dharmana should have resigned from the cabinet immediately after the submission of charge sheet by the CBI. However, instead of displaying some moral responsiblity, he went to New Delhi.

Narayana said that the Chief Minister's claim that he was agaisnt corruption would look hollow, if he does not take action against the tainted ministers. He said Kiran Kumar Reddy would be forced to conduct a cabinet meeting in the Chanchalguda Jail if he fails to act now.

The CPI leader said that the party would launch massive agitation against corruption from August 25.

Shankar Rao describes CM as "weak captain"


Hyderabad, Aug 14 : Former minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Tuesday referred to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar as a bad 'captain' whose team members are falling apart, one by one.

Talking to reporters in the Legislative Assembly premises, Dr Shankar Rao said that the Chief Minister was proving to be a very bad captain. "One wicket was already down and another has just fallen," he said while referring to the arrest of former Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana and and now the naming of Roads and Buildings Minister B Dharmana Prasad Rao as the accused in Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy's assets case.

Dr Shankar Rao alleged that the Chief Minister was shielding the corrupt ministers. He said that the ministers who have been served notices by the Supreme Court in connection with 26 controversial GOs that allegedly favoured Jaganmohan Reddy amass illegal wealth should resign from the cabinet. Else, he demanded that the Chief Minister dismiss them from the cabinet.

He said that sheilding tainted minister would spoil the image of the Congress party and the Government.  He said no one would be ready to contest on the Congress ticket during the next elections, if immediate measures were not taken to save party's image. He said he would soon brief Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi about the real situation prevailing in the State and would demand total reshuffled of State cabinet.

PCC yet to decide on Dharmana's resignation: Botsa


Hyderabad, Aug 14: Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Tuesday informed that the decision on the resignation of Roads and Buildings Minister B Dharmana Prasad from the State Cabinet would be taken soon.

It may be mentioned that Dharmana Prasad was named as the fifth accused in the chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the disproportionate assets case of Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy, particularly the irregularities in the Vanpic project. Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Botsa said that the PCC has not yet decided anything on Dharmana's resignation and a final decision would be taken only after getting a copy of the charge sheet.

However, Botsa said that he believes that Dharmana Prasad was innocent and he would get a clean chit from the court. He said that Dharmana has promised to meet him immediately after his return from New Delhi.

Meanwhile, the PCC president also expressed serious concern over the "misuse of CLP office." He said some leaders who have used the Congress Legislature Party office premises to express their anger towards other Congress leaders. He warned of serious disciplinary action if the leaders does not change their attitude.

Botsa informed that OBC Cell Convenor Chitranjan was being served a show notice for speaking against Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy. Futher, Government Whip T Jayaprakash Reddy has been cautioned on making statement against other leaders.

Decision on fee reimbursement on August 16


Hyderabad, Aug 14 INN: Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy on Tuesday informed that the State Government would take a decision on fee reimbursement issue on August 16 and the notification for counseling for admission into the engineering would be issued subsequently.

The Minsiter said that the State Government was in receipt of recommendations of a Cabinet Sub-Committee on the issue. However, he said that the government was yet to decide whether or not to accept the recommendations. He said that the final decision on the issue would be taken on August 16.

Talking to media persons at the State Secretariat, Ramnarayan Reddy said that the Minister for Roads and Building Dharmanna Parsad Rao was contemplating for resignation but he was advised to discuss the matter with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and other colleagues before taking any decision.

Reacting on the green signal from center government for establishing a second port in Andhra Pradesh the Minister requested the center to establish a new port at Durga Rajupatnam.

ACB files charge sheet in cash-for-bail case


Hyderabad, Aug 13: The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Monday filed charge sheet in the cash-for-bail case of mining baron and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy.

The 40-pages charge sheet was filed before the ACB Court at Purani Haveli. The ACB has named eight people as accused in the case. They are Janardhan Reddy's brother Gali Somasekhara Reddy, relative Dasharathama Reddy, Kampli MLA Suresh Babu, suspended judge Pattabhi Rama Rao, his son Ravi Chandra, retired judge Chalapathi Rao, junior advocate Adithya and rowdy sheeter Yadagari. 

All the accused named in the charge sheet have already been arrested by the ACB. They have been charged with bribing the judge to secure bail for Gali Janardhan Reddy who has been arrested in the illegal mining case of Obulapuram Mining Corporation.

CBI names another minister as accused in Vanpic case


Hyderabad, Aug 13: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday named Roads and Buildings Minister B Dharmana Prasad Rao as an accused in the disproportionate assets case of YSR Congress party president Jaganmohan Reddy.

Dharmana Prasad has been named as the fifth accused in the fourth charge sheet of the case in matters relating to alleged irregularities in the Vapic project.  The 177-pages chargesheet submitted by the probing agency in the Special CBI Court had 284 relevant documents and 272 statements. The documents were brought in nine boxes in the CBI court located in Criminal Court Complex at Nampally.

In the charge sheet, the CBI has named Jaganmohan Reddy as the prime accused followed by financial advisor Vijaya Sai Reddy, industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad, former minister Mopidevi Venkataramana and Road and Building Minister Dharmana Prasad Rao. The list of accused includes several senior IAS officials including KV Brahmananda Reddy, Manmohan Singh and Sameul. The other accused are Nimmagadda Prakash, Vanpic Projects, Jagathi Publications, Bharathi Cements, Caramel Asia and Silicon Builders.

The accused have been charged under Sections 120 (B), 419, 420, 468, 471, 477 (A) of the IPC.

TDP leaders lock GHMC office for two hours over sanitation issue


Hyderabad, Aug 13: Nearly four thousand employees of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation were forced to wait outside the head office premises for almost three hours on Monday as Telugu Desam Party corporators locked both the entrance gates in protest against the civic body's failure to take up sanitation works in the city.

The TDP activists led by GHMC floor leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy demanded that the GHMC take up health and sanitation works including re-carpeting of roads, repairing of street lights, lifting of garbage and curbing the mosquito menace in the city. They held sit in protest before the GHMC head office after locking the entrance gates at about 9.30 am and start shouting slogans against the civic administration.

Talking to media persons at this occasion, Srinivas Reddy alleged that the garbage was not properly being removed from the city localities. Although the State Government is planning to spend crores of rupees for the proposed CoP-II, but the city is reeling under unhealthy and unhygienic condition especially due to the piling up of garbage, he said. 

Srinivas Reddy warned that TDP corporators would organize hunger strike from the next week if GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain and Commissioner MT Krishna Babu did not convene a meeting with the municipal officials within three days to address the problems being faced by the city. He warned that the protests would continue until the civic body resolves all the issues within the stipulated time. He said that the GHMC was prompt in collecting Property Tax or Trade License Fee, it looks inefficient in performing its basic duty of ensuring cleanliness.

The TDP protest came to an after Additional Commissioner (Development and Coordination) K Dhananjoy Reddy pacified the protesting leaders and invited them for talks on behalf of the Mayor and Commissioner. Almost 30 per cent of the employees returned to their homes due to the protest.

Centre sanction 830 km road works in 6 AP districts


Hyderabad, Aug 13: The Central Government has agreed to sanction project proposals amounting to Rs 413.29 crores for 271 road works measuring 829.41 km length in respect of six IAP districts of Andhra Pradesh.

In a letter, Union Minister of Rural Development Jairam Ramesh informed Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy that the proposals from the State Government to be taken up under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) have been recommended for approval by the Empowered Committee in its meeting held on July 26. The districts where the road works would be taken up are Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Warangal and Adilabad.

Jairam Ramesh expressed happiness over the acceptance of recommendations of the Empowered Committee. He said that while recommending the proposals, the Committee has advised the State to strengthen the 2nd tier of quality assurance by way of inspection by State Quality Monitors (SQMs), crediting the due maintenance fund to the maintenance account of the State Rural Roads Development Agency (SRRDA) and to take urgent remedial action in respect of Action Taken Report (ATRs) on National Quality Monitor (NQM) inspections.

YSRC holds massive protest over fee reimbursement


Eluru, Aug 13: YSR Congress Party honorary president YS Vijayalakshmi demanded that the government continue fee reimbursement scheme without any changes.

Addressing a massive gathering at Eluru organised to protest against the proposed chances in the Fee Reimbursement scheme on Monday, Vijayalakshmi said that parents of the students were suspecting trouble due to delay in engineering counseling and they were are in a dilemma. Former chief minister YS Rajshekhar Reddy launched the fee reimbursement scheme to ensure that poor students too realise the dream of pursuing higher education. But the present Congress Government has shattered the dreams of lakhs of students in the State, she said.

Vijayalakshmi pointed out that Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has promised to continue YSR's schemes after taking charge of his post. But now it appears that the government is trying to scrap the scheme, she lamented. She assured the parents that YSR Congress party would not allow injustice to them.

Claiming that welfare and development have been the two eyes of her husband and former chief minister Rajasekhara Reddy, she said that the present leadership was incapable of getting funds or sanctions for the welfare schemes from the centre. Party leaders, MLAs, and activists including the presents participated in the protest held at a large scale.

Former TDP leaders K Nani and S Krishna Ranga Rao, who have recently joined the YSRC Party, also took part in the protest.

CM, Jaipal ruckus will harm Congress, says Shankar Rao


Hyderabad Aug 13: Former Minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Monday said that ongoing ruckus between Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy would damage both, the party and the government.

Talking to media persons at Assembly premises, Dr Shankar Rao appealed to the Congress High Command to intervene on the issue and resolve the matter immediately. He said ignoring the matter would lead to serious consequences for the party and the Congress government in the State. He alleged that some Congress leaders were trying to exploit the situation for their selfish gains after learning about the differences between Kiran Kumar and Jaipal Reddy.

Condemning the allegations of Government Whip T Jayaparkash Reddy against the Union Minister Jaipal Reddy, Dr Shankar Rao said that Jayaprakash Reddy was not authorised to speak about the performance or failure of a senior leader and union minister. He said Jaipal Reddy was a wise leader of the Congress party and he was also given the best Parliamentarian award by the State Government.

Dr Shankar Rao welcomed the demand to induct AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi in the union cabinet and expressed confidence that the party would get strengthened further after Rahul's induction in Dr Manmohan Singh's cabinet.

Saraiah ridicules YSRC's protest over fee reimbursement


Hyderabad, Aug 13: Condemning the protest of YSR Congress Party honorary president Vijayalakshmi on fee reimbursement at Eluru, Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Baswaraju Saraiah termed the protest as political stunt.

Talking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party office on Monday, the minister claimed that fee reimbursement issue was solved yesterday with the agreement between government and the managements of the colleges after Cabinet sub-committee decided to peg the amount of fee reimbursement up to Rs 35,000 and official notification to this effect would be issued very soon. He said that it is not proper on the part of Vijayalakshmi to continue her protest just to gain political mileage.

Saraiah also condemned the allegations leveled by YSRC party’s honorary president Vijayalakshmi against the congress government and termed them as baseless. He alleged that the YSRC party lacks vision and thoughts and asked Vijayalakshmi not to impose politics on students for selfish gains.

Speaking about separate Telangana, Saraiah claimed that the Telangana leaders were not interested in getting political or other posts, except for the statehood for the region. He also said that Kiran Kumar Reddy would remain the Chief Minister up to 2014 general elections or until the separate States were formed.

The minister also clarified that no cold war going on between the Chief Minister and Union Minister for Petroleum S Jaipal Reddy on the gas allocation issue. He denied the allegation that Jaipal Reddy failed to get Central funds for the State. He claimed so far Jaipal Reddy brought about Rs 170 crore from the Centres and was instrumental in getting sanction of funds for the districts in the State.

Nagender denies encroaching temple land


Hyderabad, Aug 10: Labour Minister Danam Nagender on Friday denied media reports that he was trying to encroach upon the land belonging to Swayambhu Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Banjara Hills.

Condemning the registration of cases against him by the Banjara Hills Police Station, he offered to resign from his post if allegations against him were proved with evidence. Talking to reporters in front of the Temple, he reiterated that the ISKCON-run temple and an adjoining 5-acre piece of land, leased to the Hare Krishna movement, were being used for anti-social activities. 

He said that he interfered in the issue on the request of residents of NBT Colony as they were being harassed by the activists of Hare Krishna movement.

The minister slammed a section of media for portraying him as an anti-social element. He said that he interfered in the issue in the interest of general public and would continue to do so, whenever required. Stating that booking of cases was not new for him, he appealed to the Endowments Department to verify the activities of ISKON. He said that the police authorities should have heard his version too before registering the cases.


Nagender also expressed shock over the silence of Home Minister P Sabitha Indira Reddy over the issue. He said that the Home Minister was either ignorant about of the issue or have decided to remain silent on the "over-action" by the police.
