Over 120 fall sick after consuming adulterad toddy


Medak/Hyderabad, Aug 14 : Over 120 people fell sick after they consumed adulterated toddy in Kalikal village of Toopran mandal of Medak district.

The villagers fell ill after they consumed the adulterated toddy on Monday night. However, the situation turned worse on Tuesday with the reporting of more cases of adulteration. The District Medial and Health Department had set up a health camp in the village to treat the cases. However, 45 people have been admitted in a private hospital in Medchal while a few more have been admitted in a private hopsital near Kompally. The condition of 15 people is said to be critical.

The District Police has reportedly taken six people into custody for questionining into the case. The left over toddy and other material have also been seized.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy directed the Medak District Collector and Excise officials to rush to Kalkal village to provide the required best medical treatment. He also directed the officials to enquire into the incident and submit a report immediately.

As per the directions of the Chief Minister, the Principal Secretary, Health rushed special teams with doctors, necessary staff and medicines to Kalikal village to take up relief and emergency treatment to the victims of adulterated toddy. The District Collector has also rushed to the village. -
