Hyderabad, Aug 13: The Central Government has agreed to sanction
project proposals amounting to Rs 413.29 crores for 271 road works measuring
829.41 km length in respect of six IAP districts of Andhra Pradesh.
In a
letter, Union Minister of Rural Development Jairam Ramesh informed Chief
Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy that the proposals from the State Government to be
taken up under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) have been
recommended for approval by the Empowered Committee in its meeting held on July
26. The districts where the road works would be taken up are Srikakulam,
Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Warangal and Adilabad.
Jairam
Ramesh expressed happiness over the acceptance of recommendations of the
Empowered Committee. He said that while recommending the proposals, the
Committee has advised the State to strengthen the 2nd tier of quality assurance
by way of inspection by State Quality Monitors (SQMs), crediting the due
maintenance fund to the maintenance account of the State Rural Roads Development
Agency (SRRDA) and to take urgent remedial action in respect of Action Taken
Report (ATRs) on National Quality Monitor (NQM) inspections.
