Telangana welfare on our agenda: Jagan

Sathupalli (Khammam dist), April 27 : Assuring that YSRCP will implement all the welfare schemes named in its manifesto in Telangana as well, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that his Party will be a force to reckon with as YSR is still being seen as a visionary who balanced welfare and development in this region as well.

Addressing a road-show here on Sunday as part of his YSR Jana Bheri electioneering he said: “this is a battle between credibility and honesty on one side and conspiracy and opportunism on the other and I appeal you to vote for YSRCP fan symbol to bring back the golden era of YSR.”

Very soon I will be taking over as Chief Minister of Seemandhra, but it does not mean that this state will be neglected. YSR is in the hearts of all Telugu people and I assure you that all welfare schemes named in the manifesto will be implemented in Telangana as well.

The unfinished Odarpu Yatra will be continued by my sister Sharmila in this region. We come to know about the plight of people only through such mass contact programmes and I have learnt the way of life of the poorest of the poor during my Odarpu Yatra which finds its reflection in the manifesto, he said.

It is important for political leaders to mingle with people to know firsthand their problems and aspirations and I have spend time with many families and no leader has taken this line of approach so far, he said.

“We in an age of degenerated politics and we have to change the system and bring back YSR golden era. I appeal you to vote for YSRCP fan symbol to bring this dream into a reality,” he said.

Five years after YSR death still he is remembered by the people as his welfare schemes have touched every section of the society and he did not impose any fresh taxes or increase any fares while carrying out the welfare schemes which made him a model Chief Minister in the country.

Before his golden era, we have seen the dark age of Chandrababu Naidu who did not care for farmers, students, women and his policies were anti-people. Pensions and housing were meager and were carried out on quota system limiting the number of beneficiaries.

He has done away with all the poll promises by increasing the Rs 2 kg rice to Rs 5.25, lifted prohibition and encouraged belt shops. He is in the habit of forgetting poll promises after elections. Even now he is coming with promises aplenty.

He is promising of loan waivers, free cell phones and television sets and his past says that he is not in the habit of fulfilling the election promises.

The Congress government after the death of YSR has been very taxing. It has burdened the people heavily and did not bring in a single new project and has brought down the values of political system.

We have to bring back credibility into the system by rejecting the divisive and opportunists and electing a responsive and responsible government, he said. INN

Beware of leaders offering money for votes: Dr. JP

Hyderabad, April 27 : Loksatta Party national President Dr. Jayaprakash Naarayan today appealed to voters to realize that those who seek to buy their votes with money and liquor are planning to loot the Rs.5.5 lakh the State Government spends on every family for five years.

Addressing a media conference, Dr. JP said that those who spend crores of rupees in elections are setting their eyes on making many times more than their investment through bagging contracts or seeking commissions or land encroachments or brokering deals.

Dr. JP said that Andhra Pradesh has earned dubious distinction by accounting for Rs.124 crore of the total Rs.225 crore and 4.4 lakh liters of the total 5.6 lakh liters of liquor seized all over the country. One out of every five candidates in the electoral race for the Assembly is facing some criminal case or other and one out of every seven candidates, a case of murder or rape.

Dr. JP said that people should not view elections as a 20-20 cricket match but as an exercise that has a bearing on their future. On a visit to a slum at Balamrai in Secunderabad Cantonment constituency this morning, a woman told him that she threw away the cooked rice as it was unfit to consume. “Have we asked you to supply such rotten rice at one rupee a kg?” The 6th and 7th class children on whom they spend Rs.500 to Rs.600 a month on fees cannot do a simple division. The residents asked whether the Government cannot ensure even power supply.

Politics, said Dr. JP, should bring about a change in people’s lives and not in one leader or party being replaced by another. It is possible only when the Government ensures quality education, healthcare and employment opportunities to all. Touching upon healthcare in the country, Dr. JP said it is distressing that 12000 new TB cases are being reported every day in India although drugs to cure TB have been there for more than five decades.

Unlike other political parties, the Loksatta is focusing on people’s problems and providing concrete solutions.

Dr. JP called upon voters not to take the ensuing elections lightly since they have the potential to change the country’s destiny. They should defer travel, brave the heat and make it a point to vote.

He reiterated that in the fight between dharma and money in Malkajgiri from where he is contesting for the Lok Sabha, people are overwhelmingly standing for dharma.

Bandaru Ramamohan Rao, Convener of the party’s Telangana Coordination Committee, took part in the media conference. INN

In a media statement, Shabbir Ali described the 10-year regime of Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre as the "Golden Decade" for minorities in India. The Congress-led UPA Government has set a new benchmark for the development of minorities in the country. "While the UPA-I laid the foundation for the real growth of minorities, the UPA-II accomplished what could not be achieved in the last 50 years," he said.

"The literacy rate among Muslims has registered a marked improvement from 52.1% in 1999-2000 to 63.5% in 2007-08 for rural areas and from 69.8% to 75.1% for urban areas. The literacy rate of Muslims as ratio of national average has gone up from 0.93 in 1999-2000 to 0.95 in 2007-08 for rural areas. The figure for urban areas has gone up from 0.87 in 1999-2000 to 0.89 in 2007-08," he said.

Under PM`s 15 points programme 11 ministries have introduced 24 programmes for minorities. Scholarship and Multi Sectoral Development Programme are important among them, he said. In Andhra Pradesh, he budget for minorities welfare has been increased to over Rs 1,000 crore.

"Despite legal hurdles, the Congress Government has been implementing the 4% Reservation for Muslims in jobs and education. As many as 225 seats are reserved for Muslims in Government Medical Colleges under BC-E category. Due to the combined output of 4% reservation and five minorities' medical colleges, a total of 725 Muslim youth are becoming doctors every years," he said.

Likewise, in the year 2013-14, under BC-E category, Muslim students got admissions on 9,023 Engineering seats. As many as 12,415 Muslims got admission in B Tech/B Pharm through SW-I & SW-II-AC, 5,975 in MBA/MCA, 1,840 in M Tech/M Pharm and 2,250 in B Ed courses. Due to 4% reservation in local bodies polls, for the first time 226 Muslims were elected as sarpanches. Shabbir Ali said that the Congress Government has completely revolutionalised the lives of poor Muslims across the country, especially Andhra Pradesh.

Shabbir Ali expressed confidence that the Congress party will come to power both in Telangana and at the Centre and will intensify its efforts for the overall development of minorities. INN
