Hyderabad, October 10 : The South Central Railway on Wednesday said that it took sustained measures to clear extra rush of passenger traffic during holidays and festival and pilgrim seasons.
The measures include permanent augmentation of existing trains with additional coaches, attaching extra coaches to existing trains to clear waitlisted passengers and running of special trains on popular routes which are well appreciated and patronized by the passengers as they are helpful for the needy passengers to reach their destinations comfortably.
The SCR augmented many existing trains on popular routes with 42 additional coaches which include 17 AC III Tier, 1 AC II Tier, 20 Sleeper Class and 4 General Second Class Coaches during the first half of the current financial year from April to September. Close watch is being kept on the waiting list position of various trains on popular routes. Whenever the wait list is on the higher side, extra coaches are being attached to those trains for the benefit of the waitlisted passengers. During the first half of the current financial year, South Central Railway attached 6,231 extra coaches and cleared around 3.7 lakh waitlisted passengers, the SCR said.
The SCR has been operating special trains on popular routes to meet the extra rush of passengers during festival and holiday seasons on a regular basis. As many as 219 special trains were run during April to September this year to various destinations such as Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Kolhapur, Santragachi, Tirupati, Nanded, Sainagar Shirdi, Ajmer, and Jaipur, etc and around 1.83 lakh Passengers were transported by these trains.
For the ensuring festive season of Dasara, Bakrid and Dieepavali in the month of October and November, SCR has already announced 108 special trains for these two months. These special trains will be operated to popular destinations such as Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore, Jaipur, Mumbai LTT, Santragachi, Nanded, Kakinada Town, Sainagar Shirdi and Jammutawi etc. The list of special trains announced from time to time is consolidated and attached herewith for the information of the public.
