Hyderabad, Feb 27 (INN): Tandur Police Inspector Sudheer Reddy, who was accused of illegally detaining a local businessman, has been transferred.
The move came after Andhra Pradesh High Court directed the Tandur Police on February 25 to submit a report within two weeks on the alleged illegal detention and torture of a local businessman, Mohammad Amanullah Rizwan, by the Inspector.
According to Advocate Ghulam Rabbani, Justice Mooty Rammohan Rao of High Court had admitted the writ petition wide W.P. No. 5198 of 2014 filed by Rizwan, a resident of Tandur who runs a stone polishing business. Rizwan had alleged that while he was returning home on February 7, he was stopped by the Inspector who allegedly abused him in filthy language and demanded his identity.
Although Rizwan explained that he is a permanent resident of Tandur, the Inspector, who was allegedly in inebriated condition, addressed him in abusive language and started beating him. Despite the intervention of other local residents, Rizwan was taken to the police station. He was also alleged tortured and only after the intervention of the locals of Tandur town, Rizwan was released.
When asked by the court on the status of the representation given to Deputy Superintendent Of Police, Tandur Division of Ranga Reddy District, the advocate replied that no action has been taken yet.
The court then directed the Government Pleader to instruct the police to submit the report within two weeks in this regard. Following court's directions, the Inspector has been transferred from Tandur, Ranga Reddy district. (INN)
