Hyderabad, October 3 : The City Police on Wednesday arrested 14 corporators of Telugu Desam Party for staging dharna before the State Secretariat in protest against the failure of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation in spread of dengue and other viral diseases.
The corporators led by GHMC floor leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy staged sit-in protest at the Secretariat main gate for about one hour. Talking to reporters, Singireddy alleged that over 1,800 cases of dengue and viral fever have been reported in different hospitals in the GHMC limits. However, instead of taking measures to prevent the outbreak of diseases, the entire GHMC staff was focussed on the arrangements for global biodiversity conference. He alleged that MT Krishna Babu was acting more like the COP-11 Commissioner than the GHMC Commissioner.
The TDP leader also demanded that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy visit the city hospitals for the reality check on the prevalence and spread of viral fever, dengue and other diseases. However, he said that the Chief Minister was more interested in visiting New Delhi to protect his seat of power.
Later, the city police took all the corporators into custody and shifted them to the Nampally Police Station. The corporators were released later.
