Hyderabad, October 3 : Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday asked the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to speed up the Hussainsagar cleaning project and complete it on war footing.
Reviewing all the projects taken up and proposed to be taken up by the HMDA, the Chief Minister told the officials that all the lakes in and around Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy have to be protected. He also asked the HMDA to prioritise radial road works in the city and also other new projects.
Municipal Administration Minister M Maheedhar Reddy, Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew, Municipal Administration Department Principal Secretary B Sam Bob, GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
HMDA Commissioner Neerabh Kumar Prasad explained the proposed new projects in the pipe line and ongoing projects and gave a brief overview, status, issues, likely date of commencement and completion of the projects. The HMDA is proposing to take up eight new projects in the coming year at a cost of Rs 3,300 crores. The costs of the new projects are proposed to be taken on PPP mode, while the Radial Roads will be taken up under JICA assistance.
The Hussain Sagar Lake and Catchment Area Improvement Project (HCIP) funded by JICA, at a project cost of Rs 370 crores, is under execution for cleaning up and restoration of Hussain Sagar Lake.
Further, Hyderabad will be the first city in the country to implement Intelligent Transport System (ITS) for Outer Ring Road and in Hyderabad Metropolitan Area. The JICA through a grant is providing assistance for study project formulation and tendering. The study for both HMA and ORR is completed. Estimated cost for ITS of ORR is Rs 262 crores and this amount is already sanctioned by JICA by way of loan. The ITS for HMA is estimated to cost Rs 900 crores and will be taken in three phases spread over 15 years. The first Phase costing Rs 150 Crores will be taken up in one years time and likely to be completed during 2014.
Transit Oriented Development, Integrated Commuter Terminal at Secunderabad Railway Station, Musi Improvement Project, Science City, Hyderabad Habitat Centre and the Outer Ring Road (ORR) are the other projects being executed or proposed by the HMDA.
