AP Genco to get coal linkages for three projects

Hyderabad, October 3 : Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday agreed to positively consider the request of AP Genco for coal linkage of their three projects.

The Chief Minister gave the nod while reviewing the coal linkage for AP Genco Projects with officials at Secretariat. Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew, Principal Secretary (Energy) M Sahoo, Singareni Collieries CMD Suthirtha Bhattacharya and other officials attended the meeting.

APGENCO proposed to add 2400 MW (three x 800 MW units) during 12th Plan in addition to the six projects (total 3210 MW) already under construction. It is proposed to add three 800 MW units on fast track mode at Dr .NTTPS (Vijayawada), KTPS (Paloncha) and Sri Damodaram Sanjivaiah Thermal Power Station--SDSTPS (Krishnapatnam); The estimated generation from these 3 units is 50 MU/day; These units are expected to be commissioned by 2016-17 and REC and PFC have accepted in-principle to fund 80 per cent of the Project cost.

Projects Proposed under Fast Track are: SDSTPS Stage-II Krishnapatnam (800) MW; Dr.NTTPS Stage-V, Vijayawada (800) MW and KTPS Stage-VII, Paloncha (800) MW - total: 2400 MW. APGENCO has applied for coal linkage and the same is awaited from the Ministry of Coal, GoI. Getting coal linkage from GoI is difficult during 12th plan and the projects will get delayed. Alternatively APGENCO proposed coal from APMDC coal blocks.

The Government of India allotted Suliyari Belwar Coal Block in Madhya Pradesh to Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation Limited (APMDC). This block has mineable reserves of 150 Million Tonnes. The estimated production from this block is 5 millon tonnes per annum. The Mineable reserves (150 Million Tonnes) of coal block are sufficient for 30 years life period of all the three projects with 60 per cent C-Grade and 40 per cent imported coal option.

APGENCO requested the Government of Andhra Pradesh for allotting entire coal production from Suliyari Belwar Coal block to APGENCO to meet 60 per cent of coal requirement of the above three projects and to permit APGENCO to import 3.15 million tonnes per annum to meet balance 40 per cent coal requirement of these 3 projects. The Chief Minister agreed to look into this.
