Hyderabad, Sept 24: Former minister Dr P Shankar
Rao on Monday said that the Congress party would win the local body elections
if it gives proper representation to the members of erstwhile Praja Rajyam
Party.
Talking
to media persons in Assembly premises, Dr Shankar Rao appealed to Congress
leaders to coordinate with the erstwhile PRP leaders by giving proper
representation in the party before the elections to local bodies. Stating that
the percentage of vote bank of party has been reduced to 19 percent from 34
percent in the recently conducted by-elections, he expressed confidence that
the Congress party would regain its past glory if it gives proper
representation and works in a coordinated manner with PRP leaders in the local
body polls.
Dr
Shankar Rao hoped that Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi would get berth in
Union Cabinet soon.
The
former minister also criticized the government for transferring Narayanpet MRO
Sandhya, who belonged to SC caste, for opposing the sand mafia in Mahbubnagar
district. He said that due to such controversial decisions the SCs and STs were
distancing themselves from the party. He also said that such decisions would
bring disrepute to the government and party would lose its image.
