Schools not implementing quota for poor student: Minister

Hyderabad, September 20 INN: Primary Education Minister S Sailajanath on Thursday informed the State Legislative Assembly that orders have been issued to all the private and corporate schools to implement 25 per cent reservations to the students of weaker section.

 Replying to a question raised by MLA K Ramabhupal Reddy and others during Question Hour, the minister said that the government issued GO Ms No 44, School Education (PE-Prog-1) Department, dated 30.07.2010 reserving 25 per cent seats for disadvantaged and weaker sections for admission to Class-I in private unaided schools. He said that the orders were suspended by the High Court in WP No 20891/2010. However, the government have framed rules under RTE providing for 25 per cent reservation in private unaided schools and notified in Gazette No 10, dated 05.03.2011.

The minister admitted that several schools were not implementing the quota as detailed modalities were under consideration.
