Hyderabad, September 21 INN: Forests and Environment Minister S Vijayarama Raju on Friday admitted that the pollution from National Thermal Power Corporation at Viskhapatnam has been causing harm to the people and environment.
Replying to a query raised by MLA K Surya Naga Sanyasi Raju and others during Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly, the minister said that the NTPC's ash pond was the main source of air pollution and its unscientific management has been causing dust nuisance to the nearby villages. He said that the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board has conducted legal hearing and issued directions to the NTPC and obtained a bank guarantee of Rs 2 crore for complying with the directions issued.
