Hyderabad, September 21 INN: Major and Medium Irrigation Minister P Sudarshan Reddy on Friday informed the State Legislative Assembly that there was no serious threat to the Srisailam Dam due to formation of plunge pool.
In his reply to a question raised by MLA K Rambhupal Reddy and others during Question Hour, the minister admitted that a huge plunge pool on the downstream side of the Srisailam Dam has been formed due to the impingement of the Trajectory Jet. However, he said that the plunge pool does not pose threat to the Dam.
The minister said that the Dam Safety Review Panel regularly visits the Dam. The National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, has carried out detailed studies of the plunge pool recently and submitted its draft report. Further, safety measures, if required, will be taken up after the study and analysis of the report and recommendations of the experts.
