Hyderabad, September 21 INN: Major and Medium Irrigation Minister P Sudardhan on Friday informed the State Legislative Assembly that Nagarjuna Sagar Dam has lost 20 per cent of its storage capacity due to extensive siltation.
In his reply to a question raised by TDP MLA Tummala Nageswara Rao and others during Question Hour, the minister said that the Andhra Pradesh Engineering Research Laboratory (APERL) has conducted a survey in 2009-2010 on existing storage capacity of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. However, he said that the State Government has not taken any steps to remove silt and increase the storage capacity.
