Hyderabad, Sept 24: In protest against the hike
in bus fares of Road Transport Corporation, the Left parties - Communist Party
of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist), on Monday staged dharnas and
rallies across the State demanding that the government immediately revoke its
decision.
Addressing
a dharna at Bus Bhavan at RTC Cross Roads, CPI state secretary K Narayana came
down heavily on the government for its decision to increase the bus fares. He
said that the government would have to pay heavy cost for its anti-people’s
decision. He alleged that the government was fleecing the commuters by hiking
the bus fares and making their lives miserable.
Narayana
demanded that the government immediately convene an all-party meeting to
discuss the hike in bus fares. He warned the government that the Left parties
would intensify their agitation if it fails to revoke its decision.
At a
dharna held at Pandit Nehru Bus station in Vijayawada, the Left party activists
raised slogans against the government and alleged that it was protecting the
interests of rich people by not increasing the fares of AC buses.
