Ex-judges seek President's intervention for Telangana March

Hyderabad, Sept 24: A group of eminent personalities including former judges on Monday appealed to President of India Pranab Mukherjee to issue appropriate directions for the peaceful conduct of Telangana March on September 30.

The appeal has been made in a letter signed by 20 personalities including former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy, University of Hyderabad chancellor Prof CH Hanumantha Rao, former Chief Justice of AP High Court Justice Sardar Ali Khan, former judge Upender Lal Waghray and others. They appealed to the President to issue appropriate directions to the Centre to ensure that the State Government does not resort to oppressive measures such as preventive arrests, erecting wire fences in the city and not to treat the March as a threat to law and order situation.

They claimed that 13 out of 15 ministers of the State Cabinet have written a letter demanding immediate announcement of Telangana State and stated that it was the only option which would bring normalcy in the region. Several MPs from the Congress party have openly declared support for the proposed Telangana March. Therefore, they appealed the President of India to take steps to ensure that the people do not lose faith in the democratic system.
