State fixes Rs 35,000 fee for Engg Colleges

Hyderabad, August 28: Putting an end to uncertainty over the fee reimbursement issue in the engineering colleges, the State Government on Tuesday finalised the tuition fee for academic year 2012-13.

Talking to media persons after the Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting at the State Secretariat, Social Welfare Minister Pithani Satyanarayana said that the government has fixed Rs 35,000 fee for the engineering colleges for the current academic year. Stating that 578 colleges have already given consent for this fee pattern, he said that 44 colleges have gone to the court against the proposed fee structure. However, these colleges have agreed to Rs 35,000 fee pattern later, he said.
Keeping the interest of meritorious students in mind, the minister said that the government would decide the final fee structure once the Task Force appointed by the government for the purpose inspects the colleges over the infrastructure facilities and teaching faculty. Reiterating that the government would strictly follow the Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC) recommendations in fixing the fee structure, he said that those 67 colleges, which have not been given affidavits to AFRC, the government would pay only Rs 35,000.
However, he admitted that the AFRC has recommended Rs 52,800 - Rs 1.05 lakh in these colleges.
