Botsa proposes political reservation for BCs, minorities

Hyderabad, August 28: Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Tuesday proposed political reservation for the Backward Classes,  Minorities and Other Castes in the State.

However, Botsa Satyanarayana said that the political reservation for different castes proportionate to their population could be given if all political parties support the move. Addressing a press conference, he asked the Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress party to support his proposal if they were really serious about giving political reservation to the BCs. He said the Scheduled Castes and Tribes were already enjoying reservation in law making bodies and the same could be replicated for other castes in the State, if all parties agree for the same.
Botsa said he would convince Congress president Sonia Gandhi to approve political reservation for BCs, OCs and minorities, provided the TDP and YSRCP come forward to support the proposal. However, he suspected the commitment of both the parties for the cause.
The PCC chief ridiculed the BC Declaration of TDP wherein it promised to allot 100 seats for the BCs. He also criticised the YSR Congress party honorary president Vijayamma's statement promising reservation for BCs in proportionate to their population. He said both the parties have been making such statements only to draw political mileage. He asked whether any leader from the BC community could ever become the president of TDP or the YSRCP. He said it was only the Congress party that could empower the BCs politically.
Botsa also condemned the TDP MLAs' protest at the office of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at the Secretariat on Monday evening. Describing the protest as political drama, he said that the Chief Minister was making all efforts to resolve the crisis. He also ruled out the need for sending all-party delegation to the Centre over power crisis.
Commenting on the reports of a possible change in leadership in the State, Botsa said the present Cabinet and PCC has been constituted as per the instructions of Congress High Command and all the leaders would always abide by the decision taken by Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
