Polavaram project to be ready in five years: CM

Eluru, August 17 INN: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday sought the cooperation of all leaders for the speedy completion of multi-purpose Polavaram irrigation project.


Talking to media persons as part of his visit to the district on his fourth-leg tour of Indiramma Baata, the Chief Minister said that the government would complete the project in the next five years. He said that the government has appointed a high power committee to finalise the tenders for the project. He said that the government would implement Relief and Rehabilitation package for seven villages which would be submerged in the first phase. He said that the project, if completed, would benefit Chattisgarh State by providing 1.5 TMC feet of water.
  
The Chief Minister also conducted a meeting with the victims of Polavaram project and got their feedback. He reiterated that the government was making all efforts to get national project status for Pranahitha-Chevella Projects. He said that he was holding consultations with Chattisgarh and Odisha Chief Ministers in this regard. 

Kiran Kumar Reddy said that power crises in the State would be eased out in the State within a one week. 

He also informed that the government was spending Rs 5,300 crore towards Fee Reimbursement. Stating that Telugu Desam has spent Rs 158 crore during its tenure for the welfare of BCs, he said that the government was spending Rs 911 crore every year and allotted Rs 3,017 crore this year in the budget for their welfare.

Minister for Social Welfare Pithani Satyanarayana, Eluru MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, Tanuku MLA K Nageswara Rao and others accompanied the Chief Minister during his visit to the district.
