Hyderabad, August 21: Bellary MLA B Sriramulu on Tuesday claimed that he was in no way connected to cash-for-bail scam of mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy.
Talking to media persons after facing questioning by the Anti Corruption Bureau on the issue, Sriramulu said he appeared before the probing agency following issue of notices and he was in no way connected to the cash-for-bail scam. He said that he was ready to attend before the ACB again if it calls him as part of investigation.
Four days ago, the ACB had sent notice to Sriramulu asking him to appear before it on August 21. After consulting his legal advisers, Sriramulu appeared before the agency. According to sources, the ACB questioned him regarding the source of money that was given as bribe to the mediators who induced suspended judge T Pattabhirama Rao to grant bail to Janardhan Reddy. The ACB suspects that Rs 9.50 crore paid to different people for Janardhan Reddy's release was arranged by Sriramulu.
Sources say that Sriramulu’s role came to light during the questioning of another Karnataka legislator, T H Suresh Babu from Kampli, who happens to be the nephew of the Bellary MLA. His name also cropped up during the interrogation of Ravi Suryaprakash Rao, a realtor, who reportedly confessed that he had met Sriramulu through Suresh Babu to discuss the deal.
Meanwhile, the ACB officials said that they would decide on arresting Sriramulu at an appropriate time.
