Hyderabad, Feb 27 (INN): GHMC Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain along with Deputy Mayor G Rajkumar and GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, has formally launched SHE CABS Scheme at GHMC Head Office on Thursday.
Praising the scheme, the Mayor said that the GHMC was striving hard for women empowerment and such schemes would help the women living below poverty line. The scheme is aimed at improving women’s self confidence while helping them stand on their own feet.
As a pilot project, the GHMC handed over five vehicles to the women, who will be the owner-cum-driver of the vehicle. The GHMC has arranged 85 per cent of the loans through various banks and the remaining 15 per cent amount was borne by the beneficiaries. For the first 2 months, the beneficiaries need not pay any interest.
Rajkumar praised the women drivers for the active participation in the program and appealed them to be bold. He said the GHMC would take more such initiatives for the upliftment of women and unemployed youth.
Both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor have paid the first charges to the women drivers.
Somesh Kumar said that the GHMC would like to expand the scheme by adding more beneficiaries. He said that the GHMC was coming up with a innoviatve progremme called ‘Driver-cum-Owner’ (DCO) in which around 200 people in all zones of GHMC, who have driving license, can be provided with a vehicle with 15% beneficiaries contribution and 85% Bank linkage. The GHMC will try to provide subsidy based on cost and eligibility. Interested youth (Men and Women) aged about 21 to 35 years can approach the concerned Zonal Office on Friday to obtain the application forms.
The Commissioner assured that GHMC was ready to hire all the 200 vehicles by paying Rs 25,000 per month.
