Hyderabad, October 11 : The City Police have failed to achieve a breakthrough in the sensational theft case of gold and diamond jewellery that occurred at Simhavani Mahankali Temple at Lal Darwaza.
Tension prevailed for several hours near the temple when the local residents and devotees tried to take out a rally on Thursday in protest against the theft of jewellery gifted by Nizam from the temple. However, the rally was foiled by the senior police officials who assured swift action in the case. The locals staged a sit-in protest demanding that Home Minister P Sabitha Indira Reddy and Endowments Minister C Ramchandraiah and visit the temple.
City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma and other senior police officials who visited the temple assured the locals that the culprits involved in the theft would be arrested soon. Later, Major Industries and Hyderabad District-in-charge Minister Dr J Geetha Reddy also visited the temple and held discussions with the members of temple committee. Besides assuring stern action against the culprits, she promised that round the clock security would be provided at all the temples.
Following her assurance, the devotees called off their protest.
Meanwhile, the City Police has formed special teams to solve the case. Although no police official went on record to disclose the details, sources say that the police has identified some suspects in the case.
