Hyderabad, September 30 INN: Tension prevailed in the Osmania University campus on Sunday when the police prevented the students from taking out a bike rally from Arts College building to Necklace Road, the venue for Telangana March.
Trouble began when the police stopped the rally at NCC Gate. They informed the students that they could not proceed to the venue in a rally as Section 144 has been imposed in the city. However, the students were asked to go individually. However, this led to a heated argument between the students and police officials. When the police forces tried to disburse the students, some of them started pelted stones at them. The students also tried to remove the barricades.
The police initially resorted to mild lathicharge and later fired tear gas shells to disburse the angry students. Sources say that besides the OU students, nearly 3,000 students who came from Kakatiya University and Telangana University were also present in the campus. A few students have reportedly suffered minor injuries in the lathicharge.
Meanwhile, when the members of AP Civil Liberties Forum asked the police to permit the students to take out the rally, they were taken into the custody by the police. Those arrested include Raghunath, Prof Laxman and Lingaiah. They were shifted to Nallakunta police station.
