Hyderabad, September 13 INN: The State Government on Thursday appealed to the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) not to bring disrepute to the government by obstructing the International Conference on Biodiversity scheduled to be held in the State Capital from October 1 to 19.
Talking to reporters at media point in the State Secretariat, Major Industries Minister Dr J Geetha Reddy and Labour Minister Danam Nagender called upon the OUJAC not to disrupt the Biodiversity conference in the name of Telangana agitation. Terming the hosting of convention on biodiversity in the State as historic, they called upon the OUJAC to organise protests in a democratic way without disturbing the conference.
Dr Geetha Reddy said that the government was spending Rs 455 crore on the conference and already released Rs 273 crore for making all arrangements including the beautification of city, re-carpeting of roads, construction of fountains, lightning, etc., She said about 8,000 delegates from 193 countries including heads of 10 countries and 60 forest ministers would participate in the conference.
The minister said that the preparatory works in some areas had to be halted due to unscheduled rains and the remaining works in the beautification of city would be completed after the convention. Stating that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy conducted review meetings with 12 departments so far in this connection over the preparatory arrangements, she said that 10 ministers have been appointed as in-charges to closely monitor the execution of works. The State capital will get three landmarks to mark the event in an extent of 15 acres at Gachibowli - a pylon, one biodiversity park and a museum.
Danam Nagender called upon people in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to cooperate with officials in organising the biodiversity conference.
Both the Ministers greeted the Chief Minister on his 53rd birthday.
