Fee Reimbursement scheme will be not diluted, says PCC

Hyderabad, Sept 6: Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson and 20-Points Programme chairman N Tulasi Reddy on Thursday came down heavily on the Telugu Desam Party for staging dharnas and rallies suspecting the commitment of State Government on the Fee Reimbursement issue.
Talking to reporters at media point in the Secretariat, Tulasi Reddy reiterated that the Congress Government was totally committed to fee reimbursement scheme and would not dilute it any point of time due to financial implications. Stating that some States were reimbursing fee only for SC and STs students, he said the Andhra Pradesh Government was reimbursing the fee for BCs, Minorities and physically challenged also.
During former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy's tenure, he said that the fee reimbursement benefit was given only for SC and ST students. However, the YSR government later included BCs, minorities and physically challenged people in the scheme from 2008. Stating that during TDP's tenure only seven lakh students were benefited and the government paid Rs 310 crore towards reimbursement, he said that during YSR's tenure 64 lakh students benefited and Rs 3,613 crore were spent in five years.
From 2009-10 till 2011-12 he said that the government has spent Rs 8085 Crore on 71,87,397 students. This year, the government has allocated additional Rs 100 Crore for the scheme due to the increase in reimbursement of fee following directions from the High Court.
Tulasi Reddy criticized the Telugu Desam Party and other parties for politicising the issue to get mileage. He said that the government was taking all measures to maintain transparency in the filling of management quota seats through online method without giving any room for suspicion. Besides this, the government has also taken steps to prevent collection of donations and gave top priority for meritorious students.
