BC Legislative Committee against cut in BC reservation

Hyderabad, September 14 INN: Backward Classes Legislative Committee Chairman G Tippaswamy on Friday demanded that the government do not cut the reservations for BCs from the present 33 percent for the local body elections.

Talking to media persons at Assembly premises after emerging from the committee's meeting at the Legislative Hall, Tippaswamy said that the Legislative Committee, which met here, resolved to implement reservations based on the population strength of the BCs. He appealed to the government to explore options to increase the reservation for BCs in the wake of High Court judgment which restricted the reservations to 50 percent.

Tippaswamy said that the government should file a petition in the Supreme Court seeking hike in reservation quota for BCs and if necessary, amendment should be made in the constitution for the same.
