Ministers condemns TDP's protest at CMO

Hyderabad, August 28: The Cabinet Minister on Tuesday accused the Telugu Desam Party of staging 'political drama' at Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's office at the Secretariat over the power issue.

Talking to media persons at the State Secretariat, Information and Public Relations Minister D K Aruna took serious note on the Telugu Desam delegation for staging dharna despite Chief Minister's assurance that the government was taking all steps to tide over the crisis. Though the government has been appealing all sections to cooperate over the power issue, she alleged that the TDP, instead of giving constructive suggestions as a responsible opposition, resorted to stage 'drama' to get mileage on the issue.
Asking the TDP to stage dharnas democratically, she said that the dharna staged by its leaders would send wrong message at this juncture and it would lose the confidence of people.
Condemning the TDP's attitude over the power issue, Minister for Civil Supplies D Sridhar Babu said the TDP has no moral right to talk on power issue as it opposed free power supply to farmers during its regime. He alleged that the TDP was now shedding crocodile tears on their problems to get mileage. Reiterating that the government was making all efforts to face the situation, he said that the government would provide seven hour power to farmers at any cost.
Stating that the NTPC has agreed to provide 335 MW of additional power, he said that the Chief Minister was committed to tap non-renewable sources of energy to meet shortage of power. Responding to a question whether the government would bear the cost of damage suffered by farmers due to power failure, he said that the government would always protect the interests of farmers. He said that the government was ready to bear the cost if it was proved that the crop withered due to shortage of power.
Responding to other States managing power crisis efficiently, he said that the government was streamlining steps to tide over the energy crisis.
Minister for Women Welfare Sunitha Laxma Reddy also criticized the TDP for politicization of power issue and said the party has lost moral right to talk on issue. She alleged that hundreds of farmers committed suicide during TDP regime as it failed to supply free power.
